You not to be confused with names, Merang is the take-off point for visitors to Pulau Redan Pulau Lang Tengah, Pulau Bidong and the other islands off this part of the coast. And Marang, is the take-off point for Pulau Kapas and pulau gemia which is much further down the coast.
Pantai Merang is located in the District of Setiu in the central section of Terengganu state. Most the photos in this articles were taken at the public park of Pantai Merang just a few minutes away from Merang Jetty. In general, the long coastline of Pantai Merang is located about 30 kilometres to the north of Kuala Terengganu.
Nearby is a very warm and friendly fishing village from where you can easily find place to stay . they are a lot of boat that you can hire here to go up the fireflies sanctuary by in Merang riverside as a lot of local and some tourist alike came here to see the thousand of fireflies spectacularly glittering in the dark and experience the Mangrove swamp are along both side of the river, and the Sonneratia caseolaris (Berembang) tree while heading to the unofficial little firefly sanctuary . that I had witness during an Eco-Awareness camp that I went last JUN 2010 and if can .Can you please tell them about this Little fireflies sanctuary at The Sungai Mearang to the many people who are not aware about the little firefly sanctuary here then you can just ride the waves to Pulau Redang.
Near to the confluence of Sungai Merang and the South China Sea, a massive breakwater has been erected to regulate the depth of the river estuary. The construction has resulted in a man-made lagoon fronting the camping ground on the beach. During my visit, the camping ground seemed to be used for the ongoing National Service Camp (or Kem Khidmat Negara). In the so-called public park area, the beach is decidedly beautiful with swaying coconut trees and shady casuarina trees that produce whistling sounds when the wind is blowing strongly. Nonetheless, I do feel that the public facilities along the beach and around the park to be in dire needs of maintenance.
